PBL PROJECT!

What weather and climate factors impact air quality and how does air quality impact humans?

Do #/1-4 first. Try to think about how these activities could help you to answer your research question. Try to also figure out how the scientific data impacts your research topic

  1. Weather and Air quality Reading

2. Colorado AirQuality Data

3. NOAA – Weather/Climate Data

4. Simple Climate Model

5. Urban Observatory  (Climatologists/geographers/aq specialists)

6. Change Matters – (Climatologists/Cartographers)

7. Global CO2

8. Ground Level Ozone

9. Ozone Formation

QR Code Generator

  1. Go To:  http://www.qr-code-generator.com

2. Enter your web map’s URL address.
3.  Open the Snipping Tool, and “SNIP” the QR code.
4. Open Google Drive, Login.
5. Find your “Shared with me” folder and open the Map QR Code slides.
6. Add a new slide for with your Location Title, Map address, and your QR Code (as a picture).
7. Close your Google Slide.
8. Resume work on your map.

NEW! Adding Webcams and Photos to your Map Notes!

  1. In your map, click on MapNote.

  2. Click Edit mapnote.

  3. Find a photo of your topic that is Open Source or Creative Commons (not owned by anyone else.) You will know if the photo is this if it opens to its own page.

    1. If you google a photo of your location/weather/climate/air quality, try using the phrase. “Gunnison, CO photos + open source”  or  “Grand Junction, CO images + creative commons”

  4. Right click and Copy the URL (web address) for the photo (it should be on its own page)

  5. Paste this into the box in the MapNote on your map.

  6. To add a webcam address for your weather/climate of your location, Google “Webcam + Colorado National Monument”

  7. Right click and copy this address into the bottom URL box within your MapNote.

  8. Click “CLOSE”.

  9. “SAVE” your Map.

To be sure your changes stuck, try clicking on your MapNote, and check to see if your picture is there. Click on the picture to be sure it links to your WebCam for your location. 🙂

Weather/Climate Research Project Ideas:

slideshow, informational handout, letter, brochure, blog, website, field guide, newscast, play (on video), sales pitch for your product, drawing/painting, collage, photo essay, video, animation, computer program/app, digital story, scientific instrument, structure, blueprint, timeline, business plan, your choice. Example: Team 4 demonstrates how a house can be efficiently insulated in two different climate locations (Florida and Colorado). Their presentation includes a house model with a real estate brochure and website with graphs to show how a home uses energy in Florida vs Colorado. They dress as real estate agents to try to get their houses sold in both climate locations.Example: Team 6 demonstrates how snow can have different amounts of humidity based on current weather and the climate in which it is found. They demonstrate the ski rates of two locations in North America, while discussing the average temperature, humidity, pressure, etc. They are dressed as ski enthusiasts who want “fresh powder”!
